State of the European Union – an ETUC view

12.09.2017, 14h30 - 16h30, public debate, venue: European Economic and Social Committee

European Economic and Social Committee | Van Maerlant Building, Rue van Maerlant 2
Room VM3

The day before European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker's yearly "State of the European Union" address, we would like to take stock of current EU affairs from the workers’ perspective. We aim to assess the recent EU initiatives for workers, such as the European Pillar of Social rights and the Commission’s reflection paper on the social dimension of Europe. How do they advance the needs of workers in Europe today and in the future? We intend to put forward our own vision of the State of the European Union from the perspective of working people and communities across Europe.

We are pleased to announce that Luca Visentini, ETUC General Secretary, will make an opening speech, followed by László Andor, former EU Commissioner for employment, social affairs and inclusion, to discuss the way forward.

We count on your participation for a lively and rich debate about the future of Europe for workers.

Looking forward to hearing your views!
